HOME FIRES
Fire is everyone’s fight. Our lesson plans will introduce and explain the eight leading causes of home fires: cooking; heating; intentional; electrical; smoking; washer and dryers; exposure; and candles. The Paradigm Challenge encourages your students to create new ideas to improve home fire prevention, detection, and suppression.
WASTE REDUCTION
The Earth is everyone’s responsibility. Our lesson plans will introduce and explain the eight common types of waste: food; water; energy; electronics; deforestation; hazardous waste; packaging; cars; and tires. The Paradigm Challenge encourages your students to create new ideas to reduce, reuse, and recycle to help our planet.
PERSONAL HEALTH
Wellness and healing are good for everyone. Our lesson plans will introduce and explain the eight dimensions of wellness: social; physical; emotional; career; intellectual; environmental; spiritual; and financial. The Paradigm Challenge encourages your students to create new ideas to address wellness and the following common healing needs: heart disease, obesity, cancer, stroke, diabetes, alzheimer’s disease, infectious diseases, and access to personal health services.
FOOD SECURITY
Everyone’s part of the food system. Our lesson plans will introduce and explain the eight elements of our food system: growth; processing; packaging; transportation; access; safety; consumption; and disposal. The Paradigm Challenge encourages your students to create new strategies to improve food security in the areas of sustainable agriculture, reduced processing, lightweighting, buying local, food handling, expanded access, healthy eating, and waste management.
BIODIVERSITY
Biodiversity is essential to everyone. It is the variety of life on Earth, including plants, animals, micro-organisms, and the ecosystems they inhabit. Biodiversity is currently being lost at unprecedented rates due to human activities that degrade or encroach on habitats, increase pollution, and contribute to climate change.
About Project Paradigm And The Paradigm Challenge
The entry period for the fifth Paradigm Challenge is now open. Students who submit one or more ideas during the entry period will receive prompt feedback and/or additional resources to help the students refine their ideas. Project Paradigm believes in the power of iteration and strongly encourages students to submit their refined ideas prior to the close of the entry period for additional feedback. In addition to providing feedback and resources, Project Paradigm will select the top entries as Finalists, which will earn the students a cash prize of up to $200 and feedback from an expert in the area covered by the entry. Within 30 days after the close of the entry period Project Paradigm will announce all of the Finalists.
